GOYA COMPETITION PRIZE-WINNER HEADS FOR MADRID

Goya Competition Winner

Goya competition prize-winner Tim Spurrier (right) meets with John Challans (centre) and Bram van der Have (left) of Nickerson who are the UK marketing agents for Betaseed bred sugar beet varieties.

Mr Spurrier, who farms at Tumby near Boston, won the top prize of a weekend for two in Madrid with correct answers to the competition and his prize-winning quote: "Planting a high yielding Rhizomania resistant variety, reduces any risk of further loss of yield and profit."

The competition tied in with the theme for Goya which is ‘The Art of Sugar Beet’. Madrid is the home of Goya, one of Spain’s most famous artists and one of Europe’s most dynamic and vibrant cities.

"Goya is a new recommendation for 2008 and is the top performer in the Provisionally Recommended Rhizomania-resistant varieties category. The variety combines a very high adjusted tonnage yield potential with outstanding disease resistance with the best foliar disease resistance in its category," added Mr van der Have.
