PERNILLA SUGAR BEET – ‘Crop looks magnificent’

Following a visit this week by David Hindle of Betaseed on behalf of Nickerson Sugar Beet Seed Ltd to RW Hill Farms in Norfolk, farmer David Hill is quoted as saying the ‘the crop looks magnificent and has very high emergence.’

David Hill of RW Hill Farms in Norfolk is growing 26 hectares of  new variety Pernilla in its pre-commercial year, details of the crop are as follows:

  • Previous crop was wheat
  • Pernilla crop drilled on 22nd April 05 at a rate of 1 unit per hectare.
  • Plant count varies between 110-120 per chain.
  • Crop had a pre-emergence herbicide – Pyramin / Norton
  • Post emergence  - Betanal / Goltix
  • A fungicide was applied in early August as a precautionary measure – Punch-C
  • Crop is planned for lifting end of October – beginning of December.
