NICKERSON TRIALS AMONG FIRST TO BE COMBINED

Nickerson wheat breeders, Ian Foot and Ron Granger, are pictured combining trials at the company’s site near Maldon, Essex, assisted by students working with them over the summer.

 Going through the combine are some of Nickerson’s new varieties, including Alchemy and Hyperion. Mr Granger, who is pictured at the wheel of the right-hand combine, says that yield and quality of all the varieties is looking promising.

The plots are among the first to be harvested in the country and consist of varieties that are destined for future official trials and later commercialisation. The specialist combines are Wintersteiger Elite Plot combines and are only 1.5metres wide.
