Husbandry guidelines for Nickerson’s three new winter wheat varieties, Nijinsky, Istabraq and Alchemy, have been published and are available to growers now.
The guides include comprehensive agronomic advice for cereal growers on how to achieve the best results from each variety. The three new varieties have been developed in order to help cereal growers mitigate the rising cost of grain production in a difficult economic climate. "Although high yield continues to be the key driver in variety choice, other factors such as disease resistance are becoming increasingly important," says Nickerson’s cereals product manager Lee Robinson. "All three varieties have good resistance to Septoria tritici, with Alchemy setting a new standard for its all round disease resistance." Nijinsky and Istabraq were added to the HGCA recommended list in 2004 and are now being grown commercially on an increasing area. Alchemy is a candidate for the 2006 recommended list and has already been the subject of wide grower interest because of its excellent disease profile.
