A series of trial site open days have been organised by seed breeders Nickerson, to give growers across the country the opportunity to visit one local to them this summer.

Nickerson carry out trials over many years on all their varieties, and the crops featured in the open days include sugar beet, oilseed rape, barley, and wheat. The majority of trials being made available to visitors are strips sown in commercial crops and managed by the farmer.

“This is a great chance for growers to see what happens in trials on-farm and to learn more about our varieties,” says Frank Curtis, Nickerson’s marketing manager.

“In addition we are joining forces with ADAS and Masstock to present visitors with an even deeper insight into the work that is involved in bringing new varieties to the market.”

Open days with ADAS are on 6th June at Rosemaund, Hertfordshire and 29th June at High Mowthorpe in East Yorkshire. The Masstock open day is on the 6th June at Lodge Farm, Nettleham near Lincolnshire, courtesy of Riseholme College.

Nickerson’s Sugarbeet club will also be in attendance at BBRO open days through the summer, as well as holding their own open day on 20th June at Park Farm near Stowmarket, Suffolk.

Nickerson advise people wishing to attend to contact their local Nickerson rep for full details
