Fodder Beet Technical Information | Beta Maize Silage Guide 2012 |
Fodder beet offers a higher yield potential than any other ‘arable' fodder crop. The roots have an excellent feed quality and they are very palatable to ruminant stock. The tops can be utilised if required to boost the total fodder output even further. The crop tends to be lifted and the roots stored but some farmers have strip grazed the crop very successfully with dairy cows and even pigs.

We have recently launched a new concept – Beta Maize Silage – which we believe will help fodder beet growers squeeze even more value from this excellent crop. The new approach involves ensiling the fodder beet crop along with maize in the same clamp. By taking this route you will generate a number of benefits including an increased energy concentration and a significantly increased dry matter content in the feed – which, incidentally, can be fed all year round if required.
