Oilseed Rape

The area of oilseed rape in the UK has been at record levels. The promise of an expanding bio-diesel market has boosted rapeseed prices to a level where the species once again becomes an attractive cash crop, as well as providing growers with the ideal entry to profitable first wheats.

Around 600,000 hectares, the growth of the crop shows no signs of slowing, however almost all UK oilseed rape is now winter-sown, with spring rape falling to a small proportion of the area.

Limagrain (LG) varieties in the market are either from our own international breeding programme or carefully selected from strong programmes in Europe. Our leading variety for this year – Emerson - from LS Plant Breeding, has the best available light leaf spot resistance and is especially suitable for growers in the north, whilst Expert from the French breeder, Momont is a well established and reliable conventional variety.
